Accomplish Work of God, As Christ Finished His Work The work of Christ is still being accomplished in heaven. If Jesus Christ is still working in heaven after living a full life on earth, you can continue to work in different areas of life. So often we are looking for an easy way out. We are anticipating a perfect climate, perfect atmosphere, a life where we no longer have to work but that is not the plan of God anywhere in the Bible. In the scriptures we are commanded by God to work. Even Adam, the first man, was given a commandment by God to work and build a garden. Even Jesus, after His resurrection, was given a new job by God in heaven to pray and intercede and control all of God’s creation.
Jesus Christ came down from heaven 2,000 years ago to orient his disciples and gave them power to continue to do His work in the earth. Jesus hasn’t returned to the earth in his physical body since He gave power to His disciples to accomplish His work in the earth. Every apostle and disciple has been empowered by God to accomplish the work of God in the earth with the fire of the Holy Spirit. We are not called to sit on our hands and observe others working, but we are called by God to change lives, heal people, restore people, and help them to become empowered by the power of God.
Work to set the example for others. Not only do we work because it’s God’s will, but we work to also establish the right habits and patterns for those who will follow us. The work you do today is not all about your desires and choices but to pave the way for the next generation. Your children and disciples will watch what you do and replicate most of it. If they notice that you are lazy, they will also be lazy. If they see you as hard working, they will also be hard working.
2 Thessalonians 3:8-10 states, “Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”
Work passionately about what you care about, so that it’s no longer work. Become dedicated to your field of expertise, learn to earn an income from the work you love to do. Don’t quit the work. So many people involve themselves in things they hate; they spend 4-10 years after high school studying and learning practices they are neither passionate about nor care about. Why? They desire to make more money at any cost. It is much more beneficial to spend time studying what you love, practicing what is most important, and then learning how to translate those skills into income over time. Don’t be a slave to what you don’t love and to that which doesn’t serve your life’s purpose or God’s eternal purpose. You may lack funds in the beginning, but in the end you will possess true riches. Let your work be for God. Earn your living doing what God wants you to do. It takes time to build something that God wants you to build. Sometimes it requires loneliness, frustration, and patience, but once it’s built, it belongs to you and your family for generations. Dedicate yourself to the work of Bible Study, Prayer, Fasting, Evangelism, and Church Building. No matter who shows up, you show up. No matter who refuses to give, you give. Invite people to join for the word of God, consistently. There is power in building a spiritual community of the Word and the Holy Ghost. You establish a workforce, trusted friendships, a community of blessings, and a system of trust and success.
